A scan you have to remember to run is a scan that does not get run. Broken Link Fixer Pro can scan on its own and email you what is new. This guide covers the schedule, the background scan, throttling, and the report.
What You’ll Learn
- How to set a schedule and a start hour
- How background scans work
- How to protect a small server
- How the email report works
Setting the Schedule
Go to Options and choose Scheduled Scans: Off, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. Then pick the Scan Time, the hour a scan starts in your site time. A quiet hour in the middle of the night is a good choice. Under the field you see when the next scan will start.
Scheduled scans use WP-Cron, which needs visits to your site to run. On a quiet site, set up a real cron job that calls wp-cron.php.
Background Scans
A scheduled scan runs in small steps in the background, so visitors and your server are not slowed down. If the server cuts it off, it picks up where it stopped. A scan never runs twice at once. To start one yourself, click Scan in the Background on the Results page and leave the page: the results are there when it finishes. Stop the Scan ends it, and keeps the results found so far.
Request Throttle
Request Throttle is a pause in milliseconds before each request. It protects small servers, and keeps websites that block fast scanners from blocking you. A scan takes longer. Use 0 for no pause.
Email Report
Enter up to five addresses, separated by commas, in Email Report. Choose Send the Report: Only when there are new broken links, or After every scheduled scan. The email lists up to 20 of the links that were first seen since the scan before, with the pages they are on, and a link to the results. Leave the field empty to turn the report off.
This feature is available in Broken Link Fixer Pro.
