Choosing a layout: fade, coverflow and thumbnails

Gallery Slider Suite Beginner Last updated: September 24, 2026

Pro adds two layouts to the standard slide, a thumbnail strip, and control over how many images show on each screen size. You set the defaults once on the Appearance tab, and can change the layout for any single Gallery block. This guide goes through each option.

What You’ll Learn

  • The three layouts and when to use them
  • Transition speed and the thumbnail strip
  • Images per view on desktop, tablet and mobile
  • How to use a different layout for one gallery

The Three Layouts

Go to Gallery Slider > Appearance and choose a Layout:

  • Slide (the default) – the images slide sideways, several at a time when the gallery has more than one column. Good for most galleries.
  • Fade – one image at a time, fading into the next. Suits hero images and photography.
  • Coverflow – three images at a time: the middle one in front at full size, the others smaller and tilted. Suits portfolios and product showcases.

Speed and Thumbnails

  • Transition Speed – how long a slide takes to change, from 100 to 2000 milliseconds (400 by default).
  • Thumbnails – shows a strip of small images below every gallery; clicking one shows that image. The WooCommerce product gallery has its own thumbnails switch on the WooCommerce tab.

Items per View

For the Slide layout, set how many images are visible at once on Desktop (wider than 1024px), Tablet (up to 1024px) and Mobile (up to 480px). Automatic follows the number of columns of each gallery, stepping down on smaller screens, which is how the free version works. A number overrides the columns for every gallery on that screen size.

In the Block Editor, select the Gallery block and open the Gallery Slider Layout panel in the block settings. There you can set Layout and Thumbnails for this gallery only. Default uses the Appearance tab settings, so changing the defaults later still updates it.

Content sliders and saved sliders have their own layout and thumbnail options – see Creating a reusable slider.
