A reusable slider is saved once under Gallery Slider > Slides and placed wherever you need it – with a shortcode, the Slider block, or the Gallery Slider widget in Elementor. When you edit it, every page that uses it changes too. This guide walks through creating one and placing it.
What You’ll Learn
- How to create a slider and choose where its slides come from
- The display options
- Three ways to place it on a page
- What happens when you edit or unpublish it
Creating a Slider
Go to Gallery Slider > Add New Slide, give the slider a title (only you see it), and choose where the slides come from under Slides come from:
- Chosen images – click Add images, pick them from the Media Library, and drag them into order.
- Posts (featured images) – pick post types, categories, tags or another taxonomy, the order, and whether the page the slider is on may be one of the slides.
- Media Library folder or post – a folder or category (with a media folder plugin), or the images attached to a post.
- ACF gallery field – the field name, and the post it is read from.
Display Options
The Display box sets how this slider looks and behaves: slides visible at once, layout, thumbnail strip, autoplay, what a click on a slide does, the caption, the image size, the number of slides and extra CSS classes. Anything left on Default follows the Appearance and Behavior tabs.
Placing the Slider
Publish the slider, then use any of these:
- Shortcode – the Use this slider box shows it, for example
[gss_slider id="123"]. Paste it into a Shortcode block, a Classic Editor post, a widget or a template. - Slider block – in the Block Editor, add the Gallery Slider block and choose the slider from the list. The block has links to edit the slider or add a new one.
- Elementor widget – in Elementor, drag the Gallery Slider widget onto the page and choose the slider. The editor shows a preview card with the slider name and its first images; the full slider shows on the live page.
Editing and Unpublishing
Change the slider under Gallery Slider > Slides and every page that uses it updates. A slider shows to visitors only while it is published – set it to draft to hide it everywhere at once without removing it from your pages.
Reusable sliders are available in Gallery Slider Suite Pro.
