A broken image is easy to see. A broken stylesheet or script is not: the page just looks or behaves wrong. Broken Link Fixer Pro checks the files a page loads as well as its links. This guide explains what is checked and how to read it.
What You’ll Learn
- Which files are checked besides links and images
- How to turn the check on or off
- How to filter by type
- Why a scan with asset checks takes longer
What Is Checked
Besides links and images, the scan checks:
- Stylesheets and the fonts they load
- Scripts
- Iframes, including lazy-loaded ones
- Video and audio files, and the video poster image
- Icons, and the social sharing image (Open Graph and Twitter)
- The alternative sizes of responsive images
Turning It On or Off
Go to Options and set Check Assets to Yes (the default) or No. With it off, only links and images are checked.
Reading the Results
Each result shows what kind of address it is. Use the second filter row to narrow the list: Stylesheets and scripts for CSS, fonts, and JavaScript, and Iframes, video and audio for embeds and media. Images have their own Images type, and Links shows the clickable ones.
The Edit URL button works on a file the same way it does on a link. A file printed by your theme is not in your post content, so change it in the theme and click Recheck.
Scan Time
A page can load many files, so a scan with asset checks makes more requests and takes longer. Each address is still checked only once. If a scan strains a small server, set a Request Throttle in Options.
This feature is available in Broken Link Fixer Pro.
