Staying on top of legal update notifications

Compliance Copilot Beginner Last updated: September 20, 2026

Regulations don’t stand still; a jurisdiction adds a new disclosure requirement, a court ruling changes how an existing law is enforced, or a new law is passed entirely – and unless someone is actively watching for it, you find out after the fact. Legal Update Notifications is Compliance Copilot Pro’s way of putting that watching on autopilot.

This guide covers where notifications show up, how to check for updates manually, and what to do when one appears.

What You’ll Learn

  • How and when Compliance Copilot Pro checks for legal updates
  • Where to see the update notice and the full update history
  • How to check for updates on demand instead of waiting for the weekly check
  • What to actually do once a new update appears

How the Weekly Check Works

Once Compliance Copilot Pro is active with a valid license, it checks our regulatory feed once a week in the background – no setup required. When a new item appears in the feed, you’ll see a dismissible notice at the top of your WordPress dashboard the next time you log in, with a link straight to the update.

Dismissing that notice doesn’t hide the update forever – it moves it into the Legal Updates screen’s history, so you can always go back and review everything that’s been published.

Checking for Updates Manually

If you don’t want to wait for the weekly check – right after subscribing, for example – you can trigger one yourself:

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Compliance Copilot > Legal Updates.
  2. Click Check Now.
  3. The list below the button refreshes with the latest items from the feed, most recent first.

If the list stays empty, either nothing new has been published yet or your site couldn’t reach the feed – check that outbound HTTP requests aren’t being blocked by your host or a security plugin, then try again.

What to Do When an Update Appears

A legal update notification tells you something has changed – it doesn’t change your site for you. When one shows up:

  • Click through and read what actually changed – not every update is relevant to every site
  • If it affects wording you already publish, edit the relevant notice in the Design tab or the specific Rule Builder rule it lives in
  • If it introduces a requirement you don’t have a notice for yet, start one from a compliance template or build a new rule from scratch
  • When in doubt about how a change applies to your specific content or jurisdiction, check with a legal professional – the feed tells you what changed, not what you personally need to do about it
  1. Full text of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  2. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) – Office of the Attorney General

Legal Update Notifications is one part of keeping a site compliant over time – pair it with the Compliance Audit report for the full picture of what’s live on your site right now. See the full Compliance Copilot Pro feature set.
