Customizing notice text and colors in the Design tab

Compliance Copilot Beginner Last updated: September 20, 2026

Every disclosure, disclaimer, warning, and freshness notice Compliance Copilot shows on your site ships with sensible default wording – but it’s generic by design, written to apply to any WordPress site rather than yours specifically. The Design tab is where you replace that generic text with your own, and restyle how each notice looks, without touching any code.

What You’ll Learn

  • Which eight notices you can rewrite, and where each one appears on the front end
  • How to edit a notice’s text with the built-in editor
  • How to restyle a notice type’s background and border color
  • What happens if you clear a field back to empty

The Eight Customizable Notices

The Design tab groups every piece of front-end text into four categories:

  • Disclosures – Affiliate Disclosure, Sponsored Disclosure, AI-Generated Disclosure
  • Disclaimers – Medical Disclaimer, Financial Disclaimer
  • Jurisdiction Warnings – Gambling Warning, Age Restricted Warning
  • Freshness Notices – the single Freshness Notice shown on stale content

Each one only shows up on a post when it’s actually been flagged for it – editing the text here doesn’t turn a notice on anywhere, it just changes what it says once a post’s own Compliance Disclosures box or Compliance Warnings taxonomy triggers it. See How to flag a post with disclosures, warnings, and disclaimers for that part.

Editing a Notice’s Text

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Compliance Copilot > Design.
  2. Find the notice you want to change – each one opens in its own small WYSIWYG editor, already pre-filled with either your saved wording or the built-in default.
  3. Edit the text as you would in the regular post editor – bold, links, and line breaks all carry through to the front end.
  4. Click Save.

The Freshness Notice supports a {date} placeholder, which is replaced with the post’s last-updated date wherever it appears in your text.

Changing a Notice Type’s Colors

Color is set per group, not per individual notice – all three disclosures share one color, both disclaimers share another, and so on. For each of the four groups you can set:

  • Background color – the notice box’s fill color
  • Border color – the accent color along the notice’s left edge
  • Click the color swatch next to either field to open the picker, choose a color, then click Save.

Leaving both color fields empty for a group keeps that notice type on the plugin’s default styling – you don’t need to set a color to have a working notice.

Resetting a Notice Back to the Default

Clear a text editor completely and save it, and that notice falls back to the plugin’s built-in default wording automatically – you don’t need to remember or retype it yourself. The same isn’t true once you’ve typed something and saved it: an explicit override, even a small tweak, stays in place until you clear it again.

  2. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) – Federal Trade Commission
