Pinning or Blacklisting a Domain

Block Editor External Links Beginner Last updated: September 21, 2026

Not every domain deserves equal treatment in autocomplete. Domain Rules, in Block Editor External Links Pro, lets you pin a domain so it always sorts first in suggestions, or blacklist one so it’s never stored or suggested at all.

What You’ll Learn

  • The difference between a Pinned rule and a Blacklisted rule
  • How to add a domain rule
  • How to clean up links that already match a new blacklist rule

Pinned vs. Blacklisted

  • Pinned – links on this domain always sort first in autocomplete suggestions, ahead of usage-count ranking. Useful for a domain you cite constantly, like your own documentation site or a primary partner.
  • Blacklisted – links on this domain are never stored or suggested. Extraction skips them entirely, and any autocomplete search excludes them, regardless of usage count.

Adding a Domain Rule

  1. Go to Block Editor External Links > Domain Rules.
  2. Under Add a Rule, enter a Domain – either a bare domain (example.com) or a full URL; only the domain portion is used either way.
  3. Choose Pinned or Blacklisted from the Rule dropdown.
  4. Click Save Rule.

Every rule you’ve added is listed under Current Rules, where you can remove one at any time.

Blacklisting a domain stops new links on that domain from being stored, but it doesn’t automatically remove links already in your list from before the rule existed. Use the optional cleanup step when you save a blacklist rule to remove any matching links that are already stored, so the domain disappears from suggestions immediately rather than only once those links eventually age out.

Domain Rules is available in Block Editor External Links Pro.
