Checking Links While You Write, in the Editor

Broken Link Fixer Beginner Last updated: October 5, 2026

The cheapest broken link to fix is the one you catch before the post goes live. The editor panel shows what the last scan found in the post and checks the post as it is on your screen. This guide shows where to find it and what it does.

What You’ll Learn

  • Where the panel appears in each editor
  • What it shows from the last scan
  • How Check this post now works
  • What it does not do

Where to Find It

  • Block Editor – a Broken links panel in the document settings sidebar, and a Links panel in the pre-publish checklist, which is open by default.
  • Classic Editor – a Broken links box on the edit screen.

It appears for the post types that are scanned, and everyone who can edit posts sees it. You can hide it with Editor Panel in Options.

What the Last Scan Found

When you open a post, the panel shows the broken, warning, and redirect links the last scan found in it, and how long ago that was. If the post changed since, it says so and asks you to check it now. If no scan has run yet, it says that too.

Check This Post Now

Click Check this post now to check the post as it is in the editor, saved or not. The addresses are read from your content and checked a few at a time with a progress count, and the problems are listed. Only the first 60 addresses of a very long post are checked, and the panel says so. The check is limited per user per hour, so it cannot be used to flood a server.

Fixing

The panel only reports. Use Open the results to fix them to go to the Results page, where Edit URL, Unlink, and the bulk actions work. Or edit the link in the editor and check again.

The panel needs an active license: without one it asks you to activate it.
