Redirecting a Broken Link to a New Page

Broken Link Fixer Beginner Last updated: October 5, 2026

A redirect sends visitors and search engines from an old address to a new one. Broken Link Fixer Pro includes redirects, so you can fix a broken link on your own site without editing every page that points to it. This guide covers creating, matching, and managing rules.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to redirect a broken link in one click
  • How to add a rule by hand
  • How exact, prefix, and regex matching differ
  • How to import, export, and manage rules

Redirecting From the Results

For a broken link to a page on your own site, click Redirect on the row, type the new address (a path such as /new-page/ or a full address), and click Redirect (301). The link is checked again and shows as a redirect. The same works for many links at once with the Redirect to… bulk action.

Adding a Rule by Hand

Open Redirects and fill in the Add a redirect form:

  • Old address – for example /old-page/
  • Match – Exact, Starts with, or Regex
  • New address – a path or a full address
  • Type – 301 Permanent, 302 Temporary, 307 Temporary (keeps the method), or 308 Permanent (keeps the method)

Click Save Redirect. Use 301 for a page that moved for good, which is the right answer for search engines.

Matching

  • Exact – the whole address must match. /old/ redirects only /old/.
  • Starts with – everything below the address matches, and the rest of the address is added to the new one: /old/a goes to /new/a.
  • Regex – a regular expression on the path. Use $1 and $2 in the new address for what the groups matched, for example ^/blog/(\d+)/(.*)$ to /news/$2.

Rules are checked from the most specific to the least. A rule that would send an address to itself, and a duplicate of an existing rule, are refused.

Managing Rules

The list shows each rule with its hit count and when it was last used. Edit, Disable and Enable, and Delete work on one rule. Use the search box to find a rule by its old or new address.

Under Import and export, Export CSV downloads every rule and Import CSV adds rules from a file with the columns source, target, match, code, and status. Only the first two are required, up to 5,000 rows are read, and rows that are not valid are skipped and reported. Delete All Redirects removes every rule, so export them first.

Redirects keep working on the front end even when your license has expired.
